Heard lots of good things about the defcons and encouraging , but sometimes mixed reviews on the arbs.

Who has has had them fitted, did it make any difference?

I think its important whether you had them fitted together or separate so that you can see which mod was effective. Worried that everyone does R32 at same time as defcons and then presume that r32 made the difference as well....

Anyone ... [smiley=gossip.gif]

I has the Arbs fitted a long time back as mine were rusted and needed doing anyway. I'm not sure how much they actually help in reald world terms if I'm honest. They were just the upgrade option at the time when I was in full mod flow.

Now the Defcons, there's a very good mod indeed. Makes the steering lighter, which on what is now an old design makes the steering feel great. It's deinifely sharpens things up and make the car feel more solid.

I can now make pretty good befoe and after comparisons from having driven Julie's TT quite a lot recently and it doesn't quite feel sloppy, but you can see what I mean.

Had them both done at the same time and I can feel the steering has tightened up and feels more direct and the roll bars have reduced the roll through the twisties so i def think that I can feel both the mods improvements

What sort of cost is it to get defcons (parts and labour)? [smiley=book2.gif]

I had R32 ARBs front & rear and DEFCON2's and KW sports suspension kit all fitted at the same time and of course there was a huge difference!

My ARBs were replaced in similar circumstances to Nick. The old ones were knackered and the replacement cost difference for the upgrade made it worthwhile.

I did notice a big difference in handling but some of this might be due to the fact the old ones were past their best.

The DEFCONs are a must. This really tightened things up and the improvement is well worth the cost.

The whole point of doing both at the same time is the saving in labour cost and I believe APS do a package price for both fitted.

Cheers

Rich :P

I did my defcons first when my wishbone bushes went, worked out to £30 more for them in terms of parts and labour...

there was a huge difference with the steering response.

I then did the R32 Arbs after when my original Arbs were on their way out, again, felt the difference after running defcon for 6 months... Really tightens up in bends, and I feel a lot more confident driving harder round corners...

I drove a COMPLETELY STANDARD 180Q TTC the other day, god was it slow and horrible to drive without the 225 + remap + defcons + r32 arbs. You do really begin to appreciate the mods after driving a completely standard car once in a while...

The Defcon 2 bushes made all the difference to the handling. The car feels way more responsive than before. The TTshop and APS do special offers on these kits.

I've had the R32's done for a good while now, absolutley love them.

They made me smile more than my remap. The first corner I took hard was so easy and the car felt so sure-footed.

I also had my eibachs fitted at the same time tho.

No Defcon, but I can confirm that the arbs and springs made a massive and very much loved difference.

In Progress: Blueflame cats, Stage 2, Pro Haldex, spacers, 3 bar grill. THEN I WILL (try to) STOP!

Great feedback even if it does make me want to dig deep. Defcons arrived this morning now got to look at arbs. Also bought sports cats but would rather have them fitted with downpipe/fmic.

really can't see my pockets reaching that far though

Some more feedback for you. I have kept my front ARB standard and uprated the rear to 16mm (Golf 4 Motion). This was in order to reduce understeer a little which it did to some extent. You notice the rear of the car trying to dictate the roll of the body more when going over sudden changes in road camber angle.

I then did the DEFCON mod and noticed a great improvement in steering response - almost like a quick rack on a rally car - you could feel the front wheels turning rather than the previous soft vagueness. Well recommended! :)

Bear in mind that when uprating the ARBs and increasing the roll stiffness, the imbalance in left and right tyre/road contact force increases on cornering, putting more force on the outside tyre. Compare that to a weaker roll bar; where some roll was allowed and the left and right contact forces were more even.

That's why I uprated the rear ARB to reduce understeer (increase oversteer) by increasing the tendency of the rear to loose grip first.

There is a danger that increasing your ARB stiffness too much will make the car feel more stable and planted (up to the point of skidding) but that it actually skids sooner round a bend, than a weaker ARB, because the outside tyres alone can't provide all the grip required. You'll probably notice this especially in the wet.

I know someone who removed the front ARB on their rally car completely in order to reduce understeer and improve turn in.

only have r32 arbs

noticed a difference sure, as there's a nice corner before i get home, and before i had to go more gentle, but with the stiffer arbs, it was more stable for sure.

but then i've been told the defcon's are ace on top.

get them both, but if £ is permitting, as above, change to vw 4 motion rear arb and defcon

That would be the idea still waiting for quotes on a few other things as well. Some good feedback.

Worried on some of Johns advice that it makes the car feel more stable but then after that your grips gone. Don't want to over cook it
