A couple of months ago we had the dreaded collapsing clutch pedal issue.
That was fixed by AH Autos at Guildford who are very good, so I don't doubt it was done properly.
This morning, the missus went out to use the car and couldn't engage any gear.

I tried and (shock/horror!) she's right - the car is at fault.
There's pressure in the clutch pedal, all the gears slot in nicely with the engine off but, when you start it up, none of the gears will snick in.

Is this a common issue?
I haven't checked the clutch fluid (is it the clutch master cylinder that's almost buried under the rear engine bulkhead? ) but, because there's pedal pressure, I have assumed it is disengaging but (perhaps) not enough.

Any useful suggestions very gratefully received.

By the way, the clutch was replaced 2 years ago when we had the cam-belt changed...

Come on you lot I can't believe I'm the only one to have encountered this problem?

I sent the missus out shopping this morning (there's SBK and F1 on the box so I'm not going anywhere!) in the TT, having (it seems) resolved the problem by starting the car in gear, yesterday afternoon. As soon as I did this, the clutch seemed to free-up and appears now to be functioning correctly.

When she came home on Friday evening, she'd driven through a massive flood in the road and I wondered if this had let water onto the clutch plate and stuck it to the flywheel? If yes, maybe just starting it in gear was enough to dislodge it.

Does that theory fly?

I've got an A4 and live in the Woking area. I thought I would save a few £££s by going down to AH after a I read a couple of posts here and there about AH Autos on a few Audi forums I'm on. So I went down to do the service and was assured they do everything to Audi spec and only use original parts... which was great... BUT

Service was fine, got it for £160 less than the dealer quote, but I was not happy they didn't sign a body checksheet before taking the car in. This means they were not responsible for any damage caused to the car while in the garage and that there is nothing you can do about it because it will be your word against them, should it get messy.

I noticed, after paying the bill and driving home, that they kindly left tge remainder of a 5L bottle of engine oil in the boot, to top up if needed. This would have been useful if the oil was actually the required oil for my vehicle. They serviced my 2.0 diesel 170 with DPF (diesel particulate filter) using VW 506.01, which is NOT for use on vehicles fitted with a DPF. The correct oil is VW 507.00. Anything else WILL clog up the DPF due to the higher ash content of this oil.

I have a letter from Audi telling me the 506 oil WILL damage my car, and I have 2 service spec sheets from Audi garages stating that 507 is the ONLY oil that should be used, anything else means they are NOT complying with the service standard.

Instead of appologising and changing the oil, I ended up in 2 weeks worth of arguments with them, and they refused to swap the oil full stop. Their proof that it was ok was "it will be fine" "Audi print this across all the manuals [for consistancy]" "it is not needed unless it is over 2.7L""you'd be the FIRST to have a problem [so they've done it to others??]", I heard it all, he just stood there at the reception desk and shrugged with a big smile.

The compromise offered was: They will change the oil for me [I have to pay of course] at 5000 miles of if I have any problems [ie if my £1000 DPF dies on me and I have to change it].

Needless to say, I had enough. I took it to a different garage and had the oil changed correctly and to Audi servicing standards, not their made up standards. I will be taking this to court now and reclaim the costs. I'm sure he's probably done great work on other vehicles, but to completely ignore something that is in black and white on the vehicle manual, and then tell me to deal with it is not the correct behaviour of a supposed specialist.

Just beware that's all... this was a mistake I spotted and they didn't rectify, I don't even know what they would do to other parts of my vehicle that I could not check myself...

I'm not native to this forum but I will drop in from time to time in case anyone has a question or comment.
